Family Activities

As part of the planning for the upcoming meeting, ITE will be working with our Family Program Subcommittee to host a variety of events for family members accompanying attendees. We look forward to rolling out more information shortly.

In the meantime, here are a couple of links which will introduce you to Minneapolis and give you an idea of the wonderful opportunities there are for people of all ages.

Meeting attendees and family members can gather in the Family Welcome Center (Board Room 3 on the 3rd floor of the host hotel Hilton Minneapolis).  Come and get information and share thoughts about how to explore the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.  

Minneapolis Overview by Meet Minneapolis, Convention & Visitors Association, Monday, August 20, 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Make the most of your trip to Minneapolis! A representative from Meet Minneapolis will be on hand in our Family Welcome Center to share tips on what to see and do in the Twin Cities. Open to everyone!

Minneapolis on Foot – A Downtown Primer, Monday, August 20, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. 
NOTE: Tour will require a $0.50 LRT fare purchase for each individual on the walking tour.
Minneapolis is a great city for walking (and biking)! This primer to downtown Minneapolis takes in some key landmarks and includes a few places for rest stops.  The tour will begin at the host hotel Hilton Minneapolis and end at US Bank Stadium (the site of the Monday evening Welcome Reception).  The tour will be on flat city pavements, and will cover between 5-6 km (3.1-3.7 miles) on foot.

“Welcome to Minneapolis” Opening Reception at US Bank Stadium, Monday, August 20, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
An once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Our welcome reception this year will be held in the prestigious Delta Sky360 Club at U.S. Bank Stadium. This private club is on field level, with a full glass wall facing the stadium floor. The Vikings players’ tunnel runs right through the Delta Sky360 Club, so you will be treated to unique “behind the scenes” access to the site of the Super Bowl LII! Transportation will be provided from the host hotel Hilton Minneapolis to and from U.S. Bank Stadium.

ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl Grand Championship, Tuesday, August 21, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl is an annual, Jeopardy-style competition among ITE student chapter teams using transportation planning and engineering topics for the categories, questions, and answers. Attendees will be treated to two Traffic Bowl competitions! On Monday, August 20, the best student chapter teams from the Midwestern District compete for an opportunity to take on the winning student chapter teams from other ITE Districts during the ITE Traffic Bowl Grand Championship, held the following day. The results of the Transportation Technology Tournament will be announced during the ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl Gran Championship. Come cheer the students to victory!

Dontcha Know?: The MiteY Race International Edition, Wednesday, August 22, 5:15-6:30 p.m.
The 3rd Annual MiteY Race International Edition is themed “Dontcha Know?”. Teams will race around a number of “pit stops” located in downtown Minneapolis with the first team to cross the finish line declared the winner. Participants will enjoy answering trivia and performing tasks based on various Minnesota activities. Form a team with your family or colleagues to compete in this year’s race! The Midwestern District (MWITE) is proud to present this edition of the MiteY race, and entrance fee proceeds will go to the “Midwestern District Endowment Fund.” The MWITE Board started an Endowment Fund in 2017 to be used to support members, students, and faculty as well as help attract and retain the best and brightest in the transportation profession.
